Scope of the concert
The theme and the sound world of this concert date from between 1840 and 1940. 100 years of music, beginning with Luso-Brazilian modinhas, in which Rafael Coelho Machado stands out as one of the most influential composers of the genre.
In addition to the modinhas, the chorinho, both instrumental and sung, was tremendously successful in the salons of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th. Modas Madeirenses also make an appearance, showing their more popular character in new arrangements for quartet and voice. Instrumental works of the period, or sharing its aesthetic, such as duos, trios and quartets, will also be performed. The Quinteto Pavão e Vitória presents a night of salon music very much in vogue at the beginning of the XIX century, a musical memory of the Madeira’s quintas. |
